Eric Church puts himself on the line with his song titled “Lotta Boot Left to Fill,” which talks about newcomers who sing about legends, in particular Johnny Cash.
Church told the Tennessean he wrote this song right after Cash had passed away and everyone was beginning to sing songs about him and wear t-shirts with his name on them. He went on to say, “I got irritated with some of them who had never even heard Johnny Cash, and there they were wearing his shirt.”
Although he never says who exactly he is talking about, he believes that if you feel guilty when hearing his song then it is you who he is referring to.
However, Church also makes fun of himself in the song as he makes a reference to Waylon Jennings in the chorus, which adds a little comedic irony to the song.
