Little Texas took on the role of Brentwood High School’s pep band at the football regional playoff game against Rossview High Friday, Nov. 6, in Brentwood, a suburb of Nashville.
According to a news release, the band was planning a quiet night at home until guitarist and vocalist Dwayne O’Brien saw in the local paper that the school’s marching band would be out of town for the big night.
"I couldn't imagine a high school football game - much less a home playoff game - without some kind of a band," O'Brien said. "So I wanted to see if there was anything that we could do to help."
BHS Principal Kevin Keidel was enthusiastic about the idea when O’Brien approached him. Fellow band members Duane Propes, Porter Howell and Del Gray were also thrilled about the idea and local volunteers quickly helped Little Texas get a sound system for the event.
The BHS Bruins ran onto the field with Little Texas playing “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne, and the band blared an electric guitar version of their fight song after every touchdown.
"We just wanted to make as much noise as we could to keep the spirit up during the game," O'Brien said. "The cheerleaders did a great job, the crowd was into it, and the team was on fire. It was a great night."
Brentwood won 35 to 7.
