9/24/2007 Stephen L. Betts The 2007 inductees to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame have been revealed. Among those to be honored Nov. 1 during this year’s induction ceremony are singer-songwriter Hoyt Axton (writer of “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night) and his mother, Mae Boren Axton (who wrote Elvis’ “Heartbreak Hotel”). Both are being honored posthumously. Other country artists on this year’s list are Cal Smith, whose “Country Bumpkin” was CMA Single of the Year in 1974, legendary Tulsa guitarist Tommy Crook, and the late Sammi Smith, who scored with the huge 1971 pop-country crossover hit “Help Me Make it Through the Night.” Tickets for the Nov. 1 induction ceremony go on sale Oct. 2.
