11/26/2007 Stephen L. Betts Georgia lawmakers have chosen Willie Nelson to be the public face in their campaign against dog- fighting. The music legend and avid animal lover has filmed a public service announcement that will likely appear on TV and radio soon. It supports a state Senate bill that would make most aspects of dog-fighting felonies. In the taped message, Willie says the laws in Georgia are so weak that some dog-fighting operations have used the state as a haven for their actions. Lawmakers who support the bill hope to get the PSA on the air around the Dec. 10 sentencing for football player Michael Vick, who pleaded guilty to bankrolling a dog-fighting ring out of a mansion he owned in Virginia and has been suspended by the NFL as a result.
