I’m going to show my Alpha dog side today and break from my usual summary of today’s news to comment on the 44th annual Academy of Country Music Awards show last night.

I thought the show was a really well-done affair. I think that the Academy and the country music artists did a fine job of showcasing country music. Except for Matthew McConaughey bragging about getting laid many years ago because he said he made George Strait’s boots, it was very clean. Note to Matthew, do your homework, Kenny Chesney says he’s been with over 100 women so your story paled in comparison on achievement, but equaled Kenny in distastefulness.

Reba once again served as an excellent host. All the winners were so gracious in their acceptance speeches. The performances were good, though for the life of me I can’t figure out why they can’t get the sound better on those award shows. Is it some underlying plot to make you go buy the song to hear how good it really sounds?

Ever notice how country music stars bring their moms to these award shows? That’s pretty cool. Especially Carrie Underwood, also known as the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year, bringing her mom. We all know about that mom-daughter thing. Uh huh, you know what I’m saying.

And who didn’t have a little tear come to their eye when that courageous young Marine introduced Trace Adkins. Then Trace singing “Til The Last Shot’s Fired” with the West Point Glee Club. It doesn’t get any more moving than that. God bless our heroic men and women in the armed forces.

So that’s my take on the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. What was your favorite part?
