On Saturday, Nov. 19, the first American veteran to fall in the Vietnam war will be honored at the Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree.

James Thomas Davis was a Tennessee native, who was shot in Vietnam after telling his team to "run for it." Davis is said to have drawn fire on himself in order to save his team, his driver and their equipment. President Lyndon B. Johnson called Davis "the first American to fall in defense of our freedom in Vietnam."

Now, almost 50 years later, Tom Davis will be remembered for his bravery and patriotism on one of the longest-running radio shows in the world, The Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree. The show will be hosted by Rockie Lynne and will feature special guest, Jan Howard. Jan will share the story of her son, who was also killed in Vietnam.

The Midnight Jamboree will be held at the Texas Troubadour Theater in Nashville. It is free and open to the public and will include the unveiling of Bill Rains' sculpture of James T. Davis. Attendees must R.S.V.P by calling 1-800-993-1726. For more information, visit www.ernesttubb.com.
