Universal Music Group Not Giving Up On CDs

Universal Music is not giving up on the CD format. According to Billboard, it will be lowering its CD prices to $10 or less in hopes to attract more consumers.
Universal wants to become more competitive with the prices for digital downloads and hopes to make up for the lower prices by increasing the number of CDs sold.
The company also plans to increase the creation of deluxe CD packages, which will feature bonus tracks and include additional content. However, deluxe packages will continue to sell at higher prices.
Officials admit there will be occasional exceptions to their $10 CDs. They hope to change prices by the second quarter of 2010.

Universal’s Country division consists of MCA, Mercury and Lost Highway labels which include artists like George Strait, Sugarland, Josh Turner, Billy Currington and Shania Twain.
