Uncle Kracker has had a successful run on Country radio with his latest song, “Smile,” and he is planning to release countrified versions of his songs on a new EP. This new set of songs, titled Happy Hour: The South River Road Sessions, will be made available later in May.

DJs at the Country station in Kracker's hometown of Detroit decided to take a chance by playing his song. Luckily it worked out great for both parties, and Kracker has taken notice to their generosity.

“There still seems to be a general passion for music at the Country stations I’ve visited,” Kracker noted.

“Smile” emerged from 1970s radio music Kracker listened to as a kid. He would always listen to Barry Manilow and BJ Thomas, so he wanted to make sure and create a song that suited that style. Kracker noticed that songs in the ‘70s were not depressing or ballad-like.

“‘Smile’s’ definitely got that AM ‘70s vibe. It’s just a fun, upbeat, positive song,” said Kracker. “If it were up to me, I think everything oughta be happier.”

Kracker performed at the Detroit Hoedown Country festival and is planning on touring straight for the next two years.
