Trisha Yearwood's Mother Passes Away at the Age of 73

Trisha Yearwood’s mother, Gwen Yearwood, died Saturday morning, Oct. 1, at the age of 73. She passed away after a long battle with cancer. Her two daughters, Trisha and Beth, were at her side when she died.

Gwen, who lived in Monticello, Ga., wrote two cookbooks with her daughters: Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen (released in 2008) and Home Cooking with Trisha Yearwood (issued in 2010). The first book brought GAC into Trisha’s home to cook with the Yearwoods.

During an interview to promote the cooking show, Trisha referred to her mother as a “real example” to her in many different ways. She described her mother as an inspiration because of her independent streak and expression of true love for her husband, the late Jack Yearwood, for more than four decades.

Trisha and her sister Beth thanked well-wishers in an associated press statement and asked that expressions of sympathy be directed to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fund breast cancer research in Gwen Yearwood’s name.
