10/23/2007 Stephen L. Betts   Tracy Lawrence will once again be frying turkeys for the homeless men, women and children served by the Nashville Rescue Mission. On Monday, Nov. 19, Tracy will set up in the Mission’s Nashville parking lot (639 Lafayette St.) for the Tracy Lawrence Mission Possible special Thanksgiving event, held to create awareness of the services provided by the Mission as well as the ongoing need for contributions and community support for this organization. “Last year was our rookie year for this event,” says Tracy, “and it was very successful in raising awareness of and funds for the Nashville Rescue Mission. We set a goal of frying 100 birds last year and we ended up frying 235 birds thanks to the kind, on-the-spot donations of numerous Nashvillians and local businesses.” Tracy says plans are underway to expand the event a little each year with a long-term dream of turning the Monday of Thanksgiving week each year into a day of awareness and giving to people in need across the entire United States. He also reveals that he plans “to break my current record this year and go for 400 birds that day. We want local residents to come by, throw us a wave or toss out ‘hello,’ and drop off canned food items, clothing, personal items, or cash donations. We had a huge turnout last year. I want it to be even bigger this year.” The Nashville Rescue Mission feeds an average of 1,300 people daily, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
