Two stars known for their signature cowboy hats and talents have formed a humorous rivalry.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty and Country Music star Trace Adkins are attempting to one-up each other to see who has experienced the toughest pain.
Adkins and Petty both represent pain-relief powders: BC Powder and Goody’s Head Powder, respectively. Now, the two stars are going head-to-head in an online contest with their brands.
The BC and Goody's "Pick A Powder" campaign plays off the fierce and generational loyalty users have to each brand. Fans can go online to to show their support for either Adkins' or Petty's brand.
The man who gets the most fans to join his team will get to see the other "perform" live at the Goody's 500 in Martinsville, Va., next spring. The campaign also features a charity component. The Wounded Warrior Project, on behalf of Adkins, and the Victory Junction Camp, on behalf of Petty, will each receive a donation.
Petty and Adkins have, through a series of spoofs, jabs and challenges, taken on a role of the other’s profession. Videos of their experiences can be found at In one, the 6-foot-6 Adkins attempts to climb into Petty’s race car and Petty sings Karaoke.
It is up to the fans to decide which powder is the favorite and which of the two celebrities suffers from the toughest pain. Once registered, fans can vote daily through Sept. 30. Fans and supporters will be able to participate in various contests and win prizes, including an all expenses-paid VIP trip for four to The Goody's 500 at Martinsville Speedway (race tickets, air and hotel) for the Team Richard winner, and an all-expense paid VIP trip for four to a Trace Adkins concert stop (concert tickets, air and hotel) in early 2011 (location TBD) for the Team Trace winner. Winners will be announced in early October.
"I want to win and I want my fans to win, so I encourage everyone to join Team Trace," said Adkins. "I want to see Richard feel some of my pain for a change. He thinks we have it so easy out here on the road, but he has no idea."
