2/19/2008 Stephen L. Betts Legendary singer-songwriter Tom T. Hall was recently announced as one of the newest inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His next stop could be Broadway. According to The Tennessean, there's a movement underway to transform the songwriter’s 1968 classic, “Harper Valley P.T.A.” into a Broadway play, much like what’s currently happening with Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.” Although Tom T. says he wrote the song about his hometown, he adds that the story is one everyone can identify with. In 1968, “Harper Valley P.T.A." was a pop-country crossover hit for Jeannie C. Riley. A decade later, it was made into a film starring Barbara Eden as heroine Stella Johnson, and then a television sitcom in the early 1980s, also starring the I Dream of Jeannie actress. If a Broadway musical does happen, Tom T. would probably be called upon to write a few more songs for the production.
