Toby Keith's first single from his unreleased and unfinished album, American Ride, is already weaving its way up the charts. The title track of the album, which, according to Keith, pokes fun at the "wackiness" in the country, debuted at No. 38 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
Written by Joe West and Dave Pahanish, the song "American Ride" is one of only a handful that Keith hasn't written. "I've only ever done, like, four or five songs in 16 albums that I didn't write, and this one sounds like I wrote it," Keith told Billboard.com.
"They sent it to me to listen to and said 'You're the only guy in the world that could get away with cutting it.' I held it for about a year; it was so different I thought I'd be tired of it. I just left it on my iPod and kept listening to it, and it never got old."
American Ride, the album, is "about half done" according to Keith and should be wrapped up in the next six weeks. Currently, Keith is on his America's Toughest Tour with Trace Adkins. His first-ever European tour will begin Nov. 9, initiated by Keith's 2008 album, That Don't Make Me A Bad Guy, going platinum in Norway.
