Tim McGraw
Every era there are stars that transcend their genre of music. One such Country Music artist is Tim McGraw. Since bursting onto the scene in the 1990’s Tim McGraw has had over 20 songs reach No. 1 on a Billboard chart and has captured many honors including multiple American Music and Grammy Awards.
Any Press is Good Press
McGraw’s self-titled debut album came and went without much notice until a bit of controversy put him on the Country Music map. The first single from Not a Moment Too Soon, McGraw’s second album, was “Indian Outlaw.” The song caused controversy because some believed it portrayed Native Americans negatively, but the bad press only helped McGraw sell records.
He followed the controversial song with “Don’t Take The Girl” and other hits as the album went on to be named Album of the Year by the Academy of Country Music.
Love is in the Air
Faith Hill joined McGraw for the Spontaneous Combustion tour in 1996. Later that year the two married. Since then the duo has combined on several hit singles including “It’s Your Love”, “Just to Hear You Say That You Love Me”, and “Like We Never Loved at All”. The couple has three daughters.
Racking Up the Honors
McGraw has become one of the most decorated stars in the entire music industry over the course of his career. He has been named a winner at the Grammy Awards on four occasions and has collected a pair of wins at the American Music Awards. He has also been named Top Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music and Male Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association multiple times. He was named 2001 Entertainer of the Year by the CMA as well.
Other than his debut release, McGraw has enjoyed much success with each album. He has had four albums go to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and 10 of his past 11 albums reach the top spot on Billboard’s Country chart. His 2002 release Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors is the lone album to not reach No. 1, peaking at the second spot.
Branching Out
McGraw has spent much of the past few years branching out from the Country Music world. In 2004 he collaborated with hip-hop star Nelly to release the single “Over and Over”. The hit reached No. 1 on the Billboard Pop 100 chart and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified Gold. The Country star has also shown his flexibility by adding numerous acting credits to his résumé. He appeared in the movies Friday Night Lights (2004), Flicka (2006) and The Kingdom (2007) and will share the screen with Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn in 2008 in Four Christmases.
