The Roys Expanding Their Bluegrass Horizons

 The Roys are currently on tour promoting their new bluegrass album, Lonesome Whistle. This weekend they head to the Blue Moon Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Prestonburg, Ky. to join fellow Rural Rhythm label mates, Blue Moon Rising, Cumberland River, Carolina Road, and Josh Slone & CoalTown.

 
This week SIRIUS XM radio’s Bluegrass Junction’s host Kyle Cantrell will be playing The Roys Track-by-Track interview. It will run Wednesday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28 at 9 p.m., Saturday, July 30 at 8 a.m. and Sunday, July 31 at 11 a.m.
 
The Roy’s latest album, Lonesome Whistle, hit No. 1 on Power Source Magazine’s Top 35 Bluegrass Chart; No. 10 on Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine's (BU) Top 15 Albums; No. 14 on Cashbox Magazine's Top 20; and No. 13 on last week's Roots Music Report Top 50 Bluegrass Albums. Their single, “Coal Minin’ Man” is No. 9 on the BU Top 30 Songs, and it reached No. 5 on Bluegrass Music Profiles Magazine's Top 30 Hot Singles charts.
 
The band was chosen to be an Official Showcase Artist to perform during the Inernational Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass from Sept. 26 through Oct. 2, 2011 in Nashville, Tenn.
 
The IBMA Awards Show held at the Ryman Auditorium is part of the event, and The Roys were selected for three categories on the second round of voting: Vocal Group of the Year, Song of the Year (Coal Minin' Man), Album of the Year (Lonesome Whistle); Gospel Performance of the Year (I Wonder What God's Thinking); Emerging Artists of the Year; and Recorded Event of the Year (That's What Makes It Love - The Roys featuring Ricky Skaggs and The Whites).
