Taylor Swift Saves Hometown Park in Tennessee

Taylor Swift donated $100,000 to help rebuild a playground near her Hendersonville, Tenn. home. Swift’s donation was originally intended to help the city’s flood relief efforts, but her business manager suggested using the donation to refurbish the Kid’s Kingdom playground and volleyball courts. Hendersonville board members will vote on accepting the money at the next Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Sept. 14.

"It's overwhelming," Parks Director Dave LeMarbre said. "We didn't expect that. We appreciate Taylor's donation as well as all the others who have stepped up."

The playground has suffered flood damages several times in the past 13 years. However, it was not completely destroyed by May’s flood. Because it was not ruined, the city did not receive any insurance money for the renovation. It is expected to be torn down this fall and rebuilt in early 2011. The estimated cost of the rebuild is $175,000.

Hendersonville is no stranger to Swift’s generosity. In December 2009, the 20-year-old donated $250,000 to assist schools she had attended across the country. This included Ellis Middle and Hendersonville High School, as well as John Paul II High School, the alma mater of her brother, Austin.

Swift alsodonated $500,000 to flood relief efforts in Nashville during a telethon hosted by Vince Gill.

Swift is currently preparing for the release of her third album, Speak Now, on Oct. 25.
