Country superstar Taylor Swift will add another "first" to her long list of record-breaking success: she will become the first Country Music songwriter to win the Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony in June.

The award, introduced in 2004, recognizes young composers who have reached a substantial creative peak. Previous winners include Rob Thomas, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, John Legend, John Rzeznik and Jason Mraz.

The Starlight Award is named for Songwriter Hall of Fame chief Hal David. David, a successful songwriter, is known for penning such hits as Julio Iglesias & Willie Nelson’s “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before” and Ronnie Milsap’s “It Was Almost Like A Song,” among many others.

“Taylor Swift is one of the brightest musical talents to emerge in recent years, and represents the true epitome of the Starlight Award,” David said. “She possesses an undeniable talent as a songwriter, expressive singer and performer, and we are proud to present her with this well-deserved honor.”

The ceremony, scheduled for June 17, will also induct Leonard Cohen, Jackie DeShannon, David Foster, Johnny Mandel and five members of Earth, Wind & Fire into the Hall of Fame. The New York Marriot Marquis Hotel will host the festivities.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame has inducted substantial authors from all genres, including Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Hank Williams and Loretta Lynn.
