1/28/2008 Stephen L. Betts   2008 Grammy Best New Artist nominee Taylor Swift has hit another sales milestone with Digital Platinum certification (1 million downloads) of her single “Teardrops on My Guitar.” The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) also awarded Taylor Digital Gold certification (500,000 downloads) for her third single “Our Song.” The only other country artists to ever achieve this level of certification are Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts and the Dixie Chicks. “Teardrops on my Guitar” reached No. 2 on the country radio charts last year, and is currently climbing the Top Ten of Billboard’s mainstream Top 40 radio chart. The song was iTunes #1 selling country single of 2007. Taylor’s recent 6-week No. 1 hit, “Our Song,” is now her third consecutive single to achieve Digital Gold status, and distinguished Taylor as the youngest person to single-handedly write and sing a No. 1 country single entirely on her own. Taylor is also the first female solo artist in country-music history to write or co-write every song on a double platinum-selling debut CD. Also this week, the editors of Us Weekly dubbed Taylor one of the “10 Most Powerful Girls in Hollywood.” In the cover feature of the Feb. 4 issue, on newsstands now, the magazine profiles young stars who “are taking over Hollywood the old-fashioned way: with dedication, hard work and loads of talent.” Among those joining Taylor on the Power List are Oscar nominee Ellen Page (Juno), Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), Rihanna, and Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale (from High School Musical).
