10/9/2007 Stephen L. Betts Taylor Swift was in New York today (Tues 10/9), about to head over to the afternoon’s soundcheck for her performance tomorrow on Live with Regis & Kelly when she found out that she had received a nomination for Favorite Female Country Artist at this year’s American Music Awards. Her manager, Rick Barker, called Taylor with the news that she had been nominated for Favorite Female, along with Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood, and that she has been asked to be a presenter on the show. The 35th Annual American Music Awards will be broadcast live on ABC from the new NOKIA Theatre L.A., Sunday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. (ET). And this holiday season, Taylor will be involved with “Keep the Drive” -- a teen-led smart-driving movement funded by The Allstate Foundation. As part of the campaign, teens have the opportunity to participate in “Holiday Holla,” an online contest challenging them to rewrite and perform traditional holiday carols with new, catchy lyrics about smart driving. “This contest is a fun and creative way to make teens and their parents aware of how dangerous the holiday season is for teen drivers,” says Taylor. “Holiday Holla combines humor, music and witty-but-meaningful lyrics as a unique and effective way to encourage teens to step into the driver's seat and positively influence their peers." Participants will raise awareness about teen deaths associated with car crashes in the first online “carol-aoke” contest of its kind. Teens will also have the opportunity to win $15,000 and meet and perform their song in front of Taylor, who will help select the final winners during the Holiday Music Festival at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., on Dec. 8, 2007. Entries are being accepted now through Oct. 31. Online voting for the top videos begins Nov. 2 and continues through Nov. 25. Visit Holiday Holla for sample videos and complete contest details.
