With countless awards and honors to his name, the King of Country, George Strait, has truly earned his place in Country Music history. Strait has been named the fifth Academy of Country Music’s Artist of the Decade and will accept the award in Las Vegas on April 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Performers scheduled to celebrate Strait’s success over the past 25 years, and more importantly the past decade, include Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Jamie Foxx, Jack Ingram, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Montgomery Gentry, John Rich, LeAnn Rimes, Blake Shelton, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and Lee Ann Womack.
Aside from Strait, only four other artists have been privileged enough to receive ACM’s Artist of the Decade. Garth Brooks was the latest to be honored in 1998, preceded by Alabama in 1988, Loretta Lynn in 1979 and Marty Robins in 1969.
Dick Clark Productions will record the event the day after the 44th annual ACM Awards take place on April 5. The show will not air until May 27 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.com and range from $100-200. For more info, email info@acmcountry.com.
