Steven Tyler Talks Country Music

Steven Tyler will judge this season's American Idol contestants on their ability to perform, not on the genre of their performance.
 
The first-time judge was “turned off” from the show when former judge Simon Cowell mentioned his aversion for country music after eliminating a contestant. 
 
“You don’t judge the genre, sorry,” said Tyler.
 
The Aerosmith front man focuses on the the music but mentions deciding which contestants will advance is a “hard judgment call.” 
 
“Some can sing, some can’t,” he said.
 
American Idol airs Wednesday and Thursday nights on FOX.
