As one of the biggest selling Country acts in the business, most would expect Rascal Flatts to be up there with Kenny Chesney for most nominations this fall. With only one nomination, “Top Vocal Group of the Year,” some believe that the band was snubbed by the voters. Selling around 3 million albums and 1.2 million tickets in one year would usually put one in the running for the top award of Entertainer of the Year. However, the nominees for this year's Entertainer award are the same as last year with Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and George Strait, with the exception of Rascal Flatts being replaced by Sugarland. CMA Chief Executive Officer Tammy Genovese notes who votes on the awards as reason for the nominations. “Our nominations are obviously not based on numbers per se or stats," Genovese said to The Tenessean. "It's really voted on by their peers and the people in this industry. Sugarland is an amazing act, and I'm really glad to have them in the category." During their appearance on Good Morning America to announce the CMA nominations, Rascal Flatts made no mention of their lack of nominations. Lead singer Gary LeVox only mentioned that his group was “one of the biggest tours in the world.” Fans will have to wait till the show airs on ABC Nov. 12 to see who wins the big awards and who goes home empty-handed.
