She has also spent time promoting the cause by taping public service announcements, donating tickets and using her Web site to get the word out about the charity. One such promotion Evans participated in was the Hometown Heroes campaign in which celebrities were partnered with a volunteer from the Red Cross to illustrate connectedness to the public. She received the national Crystal Cross award on in June for her work with the charity.Evans’ reasons for working with the Red Cross involve her experiences first-hand with natural disasters and the help the organization provided to tornado and flood-afflicted towns in Missouri. “You never know what the day is going to bring,” said Evans on her Web site. “Without the Red Cross, so many people would have been left without help and the basic necessities to get through disasters both emotionally and physically. The Red Cross can help you take steps to be prepared and I am honored to receive this recognition today and represent this life-saving organization.” Evans has also spent time working with the Red Cross doing ad campaigns and trying to get the word out about the Red Cross. You can contact the American Red Cross by dialing 1-800-REDCROSS (257-7575) or visiting their website at www.redcross.org.
