Sara Evans filed for divorce four years ago, and the saga took another ugly turn last week when she filed for a temporary restraining order against ex-husband Craig Schelske. According to The Tennessean, the order means Schelske is not allowed to make any derogatory statements about the singer to the media or make allegations about what led to their divorce.
Evans filed the restraining order in Williamson County, Tenn., on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The next day, Feb. 25, Schelske appeared on the nationally syndicated radio program, The Steve Gill Show, where he discussed allegations Evans' attorney made about him and his personal life, CMT.com reported.
During divorce proceedings, both Evans and Schelske accused one another of having extramarital affairs, but both denied it. The divorce was final in 2007, and in 2008 Evans married football player Jay Barker. In 2009, Schelske alighed himself with FamiliesUnite.org to clear his name of allegations such as sexual misbehavior. Schelske, a 2002 Congressional candidate from Oregon's 5th District, said he was fighting because of the damage done to his reputation as a politician and as a father.
"What we have is a case where the court allowed the attorneys to completely destroy a father." said Families Unite spokesperson William Fain. "The goal seems to have been to protect Sara...They had to make Craig look so bad to the 'fans' that they understood she 'had to leave' for the good of the children.'"
A hearing has been set for March 15 at the Williamson County Chancery Court in Franklin, Tenn.
