Rosanne Cash has revealed the inspiration for her next album, entitled The List, a collection of covers based off a list of songs Cash's father, the late Johnny Cash, gave her when she was 18. The list, which her father called the "100 Essential Country Songs," was a point of mentorship from father to daughter.

"He told me that this list was my education, and said I should learn all the songs. I did. And it WAS an education," Cash wrote on her website.

The new album takes 15 songs from the list including "The Long Black Veil," a song by Lefty Frizzell that Johnny Cash re-recorded and performed live on the At Folsom Prison album.

"It's basically me getting a chance to be an interpreter instead of a songwriter for a change, which is really liberating, really fun," Cash said.

The List is expected to be released in the fall.
