10/25/2007 Stephen L. Betts Rodney Atkins joined “his people,” including songwriters Dave Berg and Rivers Rutherford at a music-industry celebration this week for his recent No. 1 single “These Are My People.” Rodney admits, however, that the chart-topping single almost wasn't his to celebrate. Although he wanted to record “These Are My People” the minute he heard it, the writers told him they'd already promised it to someone else. Ultimately, the other singer passed on recording the song, and Rodney grabbed it immediately. “It’s amazing how your life comes in circles, and at times you get to think about how things have happened,” says Rodney. “You wind up where you’re supposed to be. You just keep moving, keep going. And that’s sort of how the music has evolved and gotten to this point. And I couldn’t be more thankful.” “These Are My People” is the third single - and third No. 1 - from Rodney’s album, "If You're Going Through Hell,” following “Watching You” and the title track.
