Ricky Skaggs to Receive Berklee Honor

Ricky Skaggs will be awarded an honorary doctorate from the acclaimed Berklee College of Music tomorrow night at a taping of Opry Live! in Nashville. “I was elated,” Ricky told the Associated Press.  “It’s a really, really amazing honor.” The famous Boston-based music school has bestowed this honor upon other country legends Loretta Lynn and Earl Scruggs, as well as fellow recipients Duke Ellington, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, David Bowie and others. “At Berklee, we admire musicians of extraordinary talent who follow their artistic inclinations fearlessly,” said the school’s president Roger Brown.  “By honoring Ricky Skaggs, we shine a light on the present and future of bluegrass. “Besides all that, the man can pick.” Ricky’s induction can be seen on this weekend’s edition of Opry Live! on GAC this weekend.  Other members of the lineup include Little Jimmy Dickens, the Whites, John Conlee, Restless Heart, Mandy Barnett and the Del McCoury Band.
