Reba McEntire and her team battled the elements to film the music video for her newest single, “Turn On The Radio,” in Nashville on Monday night.

Production began during the afternoon, when the heat index reached 108 degrees. McEntire, director Randee St. Nicholas and the crew struggled against the humidity and heat on set at a century-old warehouse.

The heat, however, was not the only obstacle McEntire and her team faced. That evening, the cast and crew watched as an electrical storm blew into town. The lightning was so intense that the shoot’s generator had to be shut off.

McEntire and crew were then forced to take cover in the basement after a tornado had touched down nearby. The tornado originated outside of downtown Nashville, but spun on its tail and headed toward the shoot location.

Luckily for McEntire, after a heavy downpour and hail, the storm passed over. McEntire was able to resume filming shortly afterward.

“This is only the second time one of my video shoots has been shut down because of a storm,” McEntire said. “The last time something like this happened was on the set of the ‘Does He Love You’ video in Long Island. I hope that’s a good omen because ‘Does He Love You’ ended up being a Grammy winning-song and a great music video!”

“Turn On The Radio” is the first single from McEntire’s forthcoming album, due out Nov. 9. The song is climbing the charts, jumping nine spots to No. 32 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart this week. “Turn On The Radio” will be available on iTunes on Aug. 3.

There are no reports of injuries as a result of Monday evening’s tornado. The storm did knock down trees, power lines and tore shingles off of roofs.
