1/9/2008 Stephen L. Betts Rascal Flatts were the sole country music winners at last night's People's Choice Awards. The trio took home Favorite Group over Daughtry and Maroon 5, and also snagged the Favorite Country Song award for “Stand.” Joe Don Rooney, Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus accepted their trophies in a pre-recorded message taped in front of Elvis Presley's Cadillac at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville - on what would have been the King's 73rd birthday. Gary told viewers, “We are truly honored to get this award from our fans. When we started this group it came from a passion to play music for fans. To get this award is very humbling.” Things didn’t go as well for Tim McGraw. In addition to “I Need You,” his collaboration with Faith Hill, losing the Favorite Country Song award, he was overlooked for Favorite Male Singer. Pop superstar Justin Timberlake took that award. The People's Choice Awards recognize the fans' favorites in a variety of movie and TV categories as well as in music. Because of the writers' strike this year, the winners were announced in a news magazine-style format, and with the exception of host Queen Latifah, all acceptance speeches and segments were pre-recorded. The 34th annual People's Choice Awards aired on CBS last night.
