Rascal Flatts at Vandy Children's Hospital

Rascal Flatts recently put on a special performance for patients at the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Patients with all kinds of ailments packed the small theater to see the band perform. After having donated $2.2 million to the hospital in three years, the band still makes a point to make visits like this every year to the children at the hospital. Gary LeVox, lead singer, told The Tennessean he feels like it's the least they can do to help out."It's real easy to write a check, but we want to be a part of it," he said. "The reason we make music is to touch people's lives. You can spend a little time and go over there and hear their stories and talk to them and be a part of them. Some people we became friends with when we first started this thing, some of those kids aren't with us anymore."The band donated all the proceeds from their show at Nashville's Sommet Center to the hospital as well. Guitarist Joe Don Rooney said he feels like they need to take all the blessings they've been given and share them with others. "It's exceeded all of our expectations," Rooney said in The Tennessean. "We knew we could do something really cool and something really special when we started with Vannderbilt Children's Hospital, but we had no idea it would come to this...With all that said, we do the charity concert, but it's really Nashville's money -- the people in the community who buy these tickets and respond like they do. We're just a funnel for the money that takes it straight to Vanderbilt."
