9/13/2007 Stephen L. Betts George Jones was under the impression he was out for an early dinner Wednesday, but instead walked into a 250-person surprise party at Logan's Roadhouse restaurant in Franklin. The 76-year-old birthday boy told The Tennessean’s Beverly Keel, “It's the biggest surprise I've ever had. I'm almost speechless.” Thrown by his wife, Nancy, and Ronnie Gilley Properties, the party’s guest list included Joe Diffie, Two Foot Fred, Tracy Lawrence, Buddy Jewell, Mark Chesnutt, Tom T. and Dixie Hall and Oak Ridge Boys' Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall and Richard Sterban. Also on hand were fellow Country Music Hall of Famers Jimmy Dickens and Sonny James, as well as Naomi Judd, Trace Adkins and Dierks Bentley. “It's so typical of George and Nancy to have their party at Logan's,” Dierks said, giving the party’s location a thumbs-up. “They are so down to earth. They are regular folks and good folks. It's a perfect place for this to be happening.” “Sometimes you stray and don't realize how much the friends and people in the music business might care,” George reflected. “It's so great to see so many faces.”
