Opry Star Mel McDaniel Hospitalized

Grand Ole Opry member Mel McDaniel is severely ill in a Nashville-area hospital. Country Weekly reports that McDaniel's wife, Peggy, contacted their offices on Monday (July 6) to request the prayers of the singer's fans, saying his situation is "not good."

McDaniel suffered a heart attack June 16. He is now in a medically-induced coma. Since 1996, the singer has been recovering from a near-fatal fall into an orchestra pit, suffered while he was performing at a show in Lafayette, La.

McDaniel's hits include "Stand Up,"  "Louisiana Saturday Night"  and "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On." McDaniel was born in the same city as Carrie Underwood -- Checotah, Okla.
