Hal Durham, legendary Grand Ole Opry announcer and manager, died this weekend at his home in Cape Coral, Fla., the Tennessean reported. He was 77.

Durham was a manager for four years before he became the General Manager of the Opry in 1978, a post he would hold for 15 years. After this, he became an announcer for the Opry.

Some of Durham’s biggest accomplishments include signing Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Alison Krauss, The Whites and Reba McEntire to the Opry and allowing full drumsets on the stage.

We here at CountryHound would like to send our deepest condolences to Hal’s family.
