5/27/2008 Cliff Chartrand Rod Stewart had hoped to get the opportunity to make a Country Music classics record. However, executives at Stewart’s label J Records aren’t receptive to the idea. "Everybody there is against that, which makes me want to do it even more,” Stewart said in an article on IrelandOnline. “Apparently, the idea didn't test well, whatever that means." Stewart will record the final album of his Great American Songbook series later this year. The series has consisted of four recordings featuring pop hits from the 1930s and 40s. His most recent album, Still the Same…Great Rock Classics of Our Time, included rock hits from the past four decades. According to Stewart, the only thing he hasn’t tried in his career is a Country recording. "I want to do records for my own peace of mind,” Stewart said. “So when I do kick the bucket (die), I can say, 'I did that.'"
