12/11/2007 Stephen L. Betts The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2007, will have more reason to celebrate in 2008 as they embark on their Party in the Dirt tour, joined by country-rock pioneers Poco and Jim Messina. In 2008, Poco will mark their own 40th anniversary as a band. The band’s current lineup includes Rusty Young, Paul Cotton, Jack Sundrud, and George Lawrence.  Jim Messina, who originally formed Poco after serving as the recording engineer, producer, and eventually bass player for Buffalo Springfield, played lead guitar and supplied vocals and songwriting to the band. After recording two albums with the group, he met Kenny Loggins and formed the successful duo of Loggins and Messina.
