Kidman's heritage is now public knowledge, thanks to a new genealogy website launched today. Australians are a quick click away from discovering the identity of their ancestors as colonial free settler records have been released for public use. The Australian genealogy service, located at www.ancestry.com.au reveals that the Kidman's family fled Ireland to escape the potato famine. News.com.au reports that in 1842 a couple by the name of Bridget and James Callachar arrived in Sydney on board the Agnes Ewing. They found work as agricultural laborers and eventually had a son, Kidman's great-great-grandfather. The genealogy site houses an estimated 8.9 million names. Users are given a free 14-day trial before having to pay a monthly fee for the service.
