Darryl Worley’s sixth album, Sounds Like Life, will feature older singles such as “I Miss My Friend” and “Have You Forgotten.” Athough these songs were written several years ago, Worley explains that listeners will relate regardless of the song’s age.

“It really speaks to what people are going through with their jobs and families right now,” Worley said.

Worley credits his new wife and daughter for inspiring him to channel his romantic side on the new album.

“I wrote a couple songs I said I’d never write, ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ and ‘Everyday Love.’” Worley said. “I’ve never been one of those sappy love song writers. Maybe the whole key is if you’re writing something you are living, it’s not so contrived.”

Worley features an abundance of special guests on “Don’t Show Up (If You Can’t Get Down)" that defy the standard genre. Jamey Johnson, John Cowan, Bill Anderson, Mel Tillis, John Anderson, Steve Harwell of Smash Mouth, The Steeldriver’s Chris Stapleton, Little Feat’s Shaun Murphy and Ira Dean, formerly of Trick Pony, all lend a voice on the track.

“We didn’t plan that but it’s weird how it came about,” Worley said. “Jamey had agreed to come in and sing on it, and Steve from Smash Mouth was in the studio working, and we asked him if he wanted to sing on it. Next thing you know, all these other people were on it too. There are a lot of cool elements and it’s got the new, the old and the crossover.”

Sounds Like Life hits shelves on June 9.
