5/22/2008 Cliff Chatrand Nashville resident Regie Hamm was announced as the winner of the second annual American Idol Songwriting Competition at last night’s season finale. David Cook performed Hamm’s song “The Time Of My Life” after being crowned the winner of Idol’s seventh season. Hamm entered the competition after being encouraged by his wife, Yolanda, who is a devoted viewer of the program. The couple lives in Nashville with their two adopted children. "This song is about living in the moment and embracing your blessings, and letting go of bitterness and past pain," Regie said. If last year was any indication, “The Time Of My Life” could become Cook’s first single. The first hit for season six winner Jordin Sparks, “This Is My Now,” was the winning song of the inaugural Songwriting Competition. Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne co-wrote the song. Hamm is an established singer/songwriter and producer, and his brand new album Starlight will be available soon on iTunes and at www.regiehamm.com.
