Miranda Lambert Records Inspiring Song for Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton’s wife, Miranda Lambert’s song, “Over You,” from her latest album For the Record was co-written by Shelton in honor of his late brother. Nearly 21 years ago, Shelton lost his older brother, Richie, in a car accident. Blake was 14 years old at the time. Now, after expressing his feelings about his loss to wife Lambert, the two created an inspiring song that is quickly becoming a fan favorite.

"Just saw that 'Over You' by Miranda is one of the top 5 most downloaded country songs right now," Blake tweeted. "So proud. So unbelievably proud." Later, he added, "Its odd ... Being this proud but at the same time wishing it never had to be written ... I still miss my brother everyday. Every single day ..."

The song was added to Miranda’s latest album at the urging of her husband. She told Ladies Home Journal how the song came about.

"He was playing this pretty little melody and we started adding words," she said. "Later he said, 'I think it's better if you record it. Honestly, I don't think I can get through singing it every night onstage, so what's the point?'"

The song is a new style for Lambert, a sharp contrast from her feistier tunes such as “White Liar” and “Baggage Claim.” And she’s proud of it. "I love that song, and I feel like it's time for me to show I have that side of me that's vulnerable and hurting for someone else," she says.

Shelton and Lambert will appear at the CMA Awards Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The two are nominated for a combined total of seven awards. The CMA Awards will air on ABC at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
