Make Your Holiday Complete with My Holiday

12/20/2007 Stephen L. Betts   In my continuing effort to load up your CD player, iPod, etc., with outstanding country-flavored Christmas treats of a musical nature, I have saved what I believe is the best holiday disc of 2007 for last. It also happens to be one of my favorite CDs of the year. (More on that in the coming days with my “Best Betts: Year-End Edition” Top 10 list). On much of Mindy Smith’s wonderful My Holiday, her voice rarely rises above a breathy whisper, but that’s not the only reason you’ll be leaning in and listening closely. The melodies are warm and gorgeous, awash in beautiful acoustic arrangements. It’s all irresistibly sweet and tender, and yet also manages to be incredibly soulful. And even when things start to rock out a bit more in the later tracks, the songs remain as catchy as they are thoughtful and reverent (except for maybe the bonus track, included at the end of the record strictly for laughs). If you don’t fall completely in love with this new Christmas classic, then all I can say is “Scrooge you.”   Mindy talks about Christmas and performs the title track from My Holiday
