Three out-of-print Mel Tillis albums —Me and Pepper, Your Body Is an Outlaw (1980) and Southern Rain (1981) — have been remastered and are set for release on April 29. The three CD’s, originally recorded when the Country Music legend was with Elektra, are being released via Collector’s Choice Music, with liner notes by Colin Escott. Me and Pepper, released in 1979, gave Mel Tillis two top-ten hits, “Lying Time” and “Blind in Love.”  The album, so named after Tillis’ horse, Pepper, featured future Country artist and daughter, Pam Tillis, on backing vocals. 1980’s Your Body Is an Outlaw featured a hit with the title track and another top-ten moment with “Steppin Out.”  One year later, the successful Southern Rain produced Tillis’ hit “Southern Rain.” Mel Tillis, a native of Tampa, Florida, moved to Nashville after serving in the U.S. Air Force to begin his career. The Country singer signed his first recording contract in 1957.  Tillis was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in June of 2007 and into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2007.   4/2/2008 Lisa Ann Schleipfer
