Mary Chapin Carpenter has a summer full of tour dates. Her album, The Age of Miracles, is her first one in three years.

Carpenter suffered a pulmonary embolism in 2007, which is a blockage to the primary artery in the lung. With surgery and the weakness that came with it, she was unable to write songs or do any part of the job she loves. It took her six months to starting writing songs and even longer for her to record them.

Now, three years later, she is back to doing what she loves. Her current album explores some of the feelings and experience of what she went through.

“It’s about the sense of fear and darkness and cold and disconnect that I felt in my life right after I got sick, but also the immediate fear of when I was in the ER on the gurney and they were trying to figure out what the hell was happening to me.”

This Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has regained her strength. She will be doing six concerts in six cities over six straight days. She is excited and ready to go.

“It’s very celebratory,” she said, “to be able to go out again.”
