With hopes of broadening her fan base, Martina McBride has taken strides to expand her audience into the gay community with her recent interview with Out magazine.
Though some fans have openly expressed displeasure in her recent step forward in expanding the conservative fans mind, McBride said she is doing what she feels right in her heart.
"Honestly, I just have to do what's right for me, and what I would tell people is what I believe, which is that tolerance is very important," she said in the intervew.
Though her small Kansas town of 180 people was sheltered from the reality in the world, after moving to Nashville, McBride has come to realize and embrace the unique differences in society, and is encouraging others to expand their horizons.
She also discussed the possibilities of a gay Country star, though she was not hopeful about the idea. “For a country star? Honestly, that’s a tough one. [Sighs] Our core audience, like you said, is very conservative, is very Middle America, very Bible belt. I don’t know. That might be a hard sell. I mean, I would be fine with it. But that’s — I don’t know if we’re ready for that.”
