While Mark Chesnutt prepared for the release of his newest CD, Outlaw, he was honored by the State of Texas as just the opposite. Texas Governor Rick Perry named Chesnutt a Texas Navy Admiral, “with all rights and privileges appertaining thereto and with the duty of assisting in the preservation of the history, boundaries, water resource and civil defense of the State.”

“I’m not sure I know what it means to be an honorary Admiral of the Navy, but it sounds like a whole lot of responsibility,” Chesnutt said. “I’m really honored; this came as quite a surprise. Just goes to show, you never know who’s watching over you and what you do. It’s nice to feel like what we do makes a difference.”

This honor is one of many bestowed upon the Texas native. In 2004, Chesnutt became the first recipient of the “W” Award, given by the Republican Party to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary ability, patriotism and steadfast leadership.

In 2005, Chesnutt was named Mr. Honky Tonk International by the German American Country Music Federation.

Chesnutt’s newest release, Outlaw, will honor his heroes such as Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams, Jr. The first single from Outlaw will be “Lovin’ Her was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again),” written by Kristofferson. It will be released Aug. 2.
