Songwriting legend Hank Cochran died Wednesday morning, July 14, in his Hendersonville, Tenn., home.

The beloved songwriter spent his final days surrounded by friends and family. On Tuesday, he was visited by friends Jamey Johnson, Billy Ray Cyrus and Buddy Cannon, who stopped by to sing with Cochran.

Cochran was a Nashville Songwriters Association Hall of Fame member after being inducted by unanimous vote in 1974. In June 2009, Cochran was honored by BMI for his 60-year career, which included such hits as “I Fall to Pieces,” “Make the World Go Away,” “Ocean Front Property,” “The Chair” and “Don’t You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me.”

A private family memorial will be held, and a public service will follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation.
