LeAnn Rimes to Receive Humanitarian Award

Multi-platinum artist LeAnn Rimes has been selected as the 2009 Academy of Country Music/The Home Depot Humanitarian Award recipient. The singer/songwriter will be presented with the honor during the upcoming ACM award ceremony on April 5.Rimes was chosen for her charitable giving and ongoing community service. The artist has served as the spokesperson for the Children’s Miracle Network and has been a long-time supporter of Camp C.O.P.E., an organization that aids children of wounded veterans.Rimes partnered with Kellogg’s in 2007 for a patriotic campaign to bring awareness to wounded veterans. She has funded a gym construction at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville and is a supporter of the Nashville Humane Association.Her achievements have not gone unnoticed; the singer has been honored with Redbook’s “Strength and Spirit Award,” and previously received the International Entertainment Buyers Association Humanitarian Award.  As for the most recent accolade, Rimes said, "I strive to be actively involved in my community with my time and my heart, and I've been touched by the spirit and bravery of those I have encountered along the way. I'm honored that The Home Depot and the Academy have chosen to recognize my work and spread awareness of the worthy causes that inspire me."Rimes will travel to Vegas to receive the award at the MGM Grand. The 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will air Sunday, April 5, at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
