10/31/2007 Stephen L. Betts Raising Sand by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant debuted at No. 2 on the pop and country album charts this week, while it’s the No. 1 rock album in the country, and No. 2 in Internet and digital sales. The sales and chart position mark the highest ever for either artist. While the pair have already appeared on The Today Show and have been interviewed on NPR's Weekend Edition, they’ll soon been seen on Charlie Rose, and on a special episode of CMT Crossroads. In addition, one of the album’s tracks, “Rich Woman,” will be heard in an upcoming episode of HBO's The Wire and will also be featured in the 2008 film Mad Money, due in theaters in January. Raising Sand was released in the US on 10/23 and worldwide yesterday (10/30). First-day sales in the UK indicate the album will enter the charts at No, 2. The pair are in London this week for several media appearances, including interviews on the BBC Culture Show, BBC Breakfast TV and Later With Jools Holland. A tour to support the album is currently being planned for 2008.
