7/24/2007 Stephen L. Betts Kenny Chesney has once again reached the top of the country charts, and in record time. “Never Wanted Nothing More,” the first taste of what’s to come on Kenny’s new album, Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates, is the fastest-climbing chart-topper of his decade-plus career. The song topped the charts in just seven weeks (or 53 days if you want to be more precise). Prior to this rapid riser, Kenny's "When the Sun Goes Down “ and “There Goes My Life” both took just nine weeks to reach number one. It's no wonder "Never Wanted..." took so little time to reach the chart summit -  it was actually leaked 56 hours before it was supposed to be released, and sailed into the Top 10 in a mere three weeks. “That thing hit the air, and never looked back,” says Kenny. “I  mean, everybody knows that feeling of wanting something so bad you can taste it… whether it's a truck, a girl or whatever."   Kenny says the song is "pretty much everything I grew up on. You've got your bluegrass running all through it, and your Southern rock underneath … It's not something you could've just come up with, but it's a pretty tough combination to beat." And although he fuses country and rock, especially in his live shows, Kenny says that by just listening to him sing, anyone would know he's a country artist, and proud to be a country artist. "Where else but country music could you get laid and saved in the same three minutes? Life hits you fast - and that's everything this song is about." Kenny's album, Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates is set for release September 11.
