8/21/2007 Stephen L. Betts   Hip-hop musicians 50 Cent and Kanye West are busy sparring verbally over which one of them will sell more copies of their respective albums when both are released on Sept. 11. But, as Entertainment Weekly reports, a third contender is staking his claim to that week's hotly contested sales crown: Kenny Chesney. “It's funny how with every record that comes out, we're aware of the urban [competition], and none of those acts acknowledge that I exist,” Kenny tells the magazine in an e-mail. “Until I have that No. 1 debut on the Top 200.” Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates, Kenny’s 11th studio album, goes on sale the same Tuesday morning as 50 Cent's Curtis and Kanye West's Graduation. And Kenny’s last four studio discs, including his most recent, The Road and the Radio, have all debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart. His most recent even beat the original soundtrack to 50 Cent's film Get Rich or Die Tryin' when both debuted in November 2005. Kenny says his fans get ignored “because they're not an image the media find sexy. … What does bug me is discounting the people who've bought my records year in and year out." 50 Cent has said he’ll retire from his recording career if Kanye West outsells him next month. No word on what he’ll do if Kenny outsells him … again.
