Kenny Chesney Taps Keg Again

Kenny Chesney is taking a break from his rehearsals for the upcoming Sun City Carnival to play unannounced college bar gigs at various clubs throughout the Southeast. With another year of NFL stadiums, arenas and amphitheatres in the near future, the freewheeling 'Keg In The Closet Tour' is a music-driven, no big production run to blow out the carbons and remember when playing three sets in a hot room with no ventilation, cheap beer and people who’d come out to have a good time. “There’s nothing like the fun of Keg,” Chesney explains. “No set list. No stop time. No big deal production. Just me, the guys and every song we know… though beyond a few of our hits, you never really know what we’re gonna pull out: Tom Petty, U2, Soundgarden, David Allen Coe, some stuff we might figure out on the fly!  Falling through space is a great thing when you’ve been rehearsing the way we have… and it’s fun, which is why we all started playing music in the first place.” For Chesney and his band and crew – who kick off their Corona Extra sponsored tour April 17-18 in Connecticut – their unannounced run began in Tuscaloosa at perennial Keg in the Closet stop the Jupiter Bar + Grille. Marking the 5th year, the band has touched down in the land of the Crimson Tide, this year the venue was ready with t-shirts and custom koozies that read, “No Shoes. No Shirt. No Stadium. No Problem” – recognizing the intimate nature of these free-for-all no frills shows. “It’s weird realizing we’ve done this enough years in Tuscaloosa now that kids who were Freshmen when we rolled are in have graduated and gotten on with their lives.
